Dutch Postcode Lottery factsheet

Nationale Postcode Loterij

Since 1989, the Dutch Postcode Lottery has been raising funds to support organisations working for a fairer, greener world. Fifty percent of its income goes to charity. The lottery has grown to become the Netherlands' biggest charity lottery and supports 64 charitable organisations. Since its founding, the lottery has dispensed more than 2.7 billion euros to its beneficiaries.

The Postcode Lottery and its participants

Thanks to the Postcode Lottery’s 2.5 million participants – who buy more than 4.5 million tickets – a total of 244 million euros was distributed among 66 charitable organisations in 2008. Each year, thousands of participants win prizes such as millions of euros in cash, televisions, and cars. A ‘street prize’ is awarded each week, and every six months a whole neighbourhood wins the Kanjer (Belter). Popular Dutch TV lottery programmes like Deal or No Deal and Postcode Loterij Miljoenenjacht draw millions of viewers each week.

More than 2 billion euros for people and nature

International and domestic organisations working on behalf of humanity and the environment, such as UNICEF, WWF, Amnesty International, Doctors Without Borders, Natuurmonumenten and De Vogelbescherming, receive support from the Postcode Lottery. With this support, charitable organisations realise projects such as those that make it possible for refugees to safely return to southern Sudan, for the barn owl to fly again in the Netherlands, and for young people in Afghanistan to have their own TV news programme.

Thanks to its participants, the Postcode Lottery is making the difference.
